The systematic study of the interactions involved in criminal case processing. Topics include police-civilian interaction, courtroom interaction, and law enforcement and court recordkeeping practices.

Day-to-day functioning of the criminal justice system in the U.S. Nature of crime, theories about causes and solutions. Emphasis on the sociology of the criminal justice system—organization and roles of police, lawyers, court and correctional personnel.
Study of inter-group relations, racism, discrimination, privilege, history of racial and ethnic minorities; analyzing challenges in economics, housing, politics, law, education, family, and health for US minorities.
